We worshipped – Secret Santa Worship Day

As I stood I saw a small light.  A pinprick.  A flicker.  Someone had moved, there in the congregation.  Just for a moment.  And someone else, another minute flare.  And more.  More flickers.  Instants of  “was that … ?” moments.  Like fireflies.  And I looked down as I stood – what about me?  And saw a faint glow within me.  Hidden within.

And as I caressed the words of The Word, I saw fireflies were everywhere.  Flickers.  Disconnected and faint.  Alone.  Each on its own.

And as I spoke words I do not remember, meanings I cannot recollect, I saw these faint lights raise above each one.  A pinprick of light.  And each began to circle.  Faster and faster.

Even as I spoke.

My lips moving, breath in and breath out, words of sound  … I know not what.

Faster and faster this whirling light show.

Ever faster and brighter as now there were no pinpricks.

All were one.

A circle of flame above my head.

Above our heads.

The noise was monstrous.

I could not hear my voice even though words continued.

And without thought I stopped.

Lost in wonder at the sight and sound of this fire.

And others followed my gaze.

Others seemed to see as well.

Others seemed to hear.

I heard gasps of wonder.

I saw some hear music.

I saw some see their friends.

I saw others see their beloved loved ones.

I saw and heard such beauty everywhere …

There was no “collar or calling”.  There was no “them and us”.  There was no “saved or unclean”.  There was just great beauty, great union, great tears of joy.  We were as we Are.  As One in One of One.  We are in One and One in each.

As I stood at the lectern I saw a great light.  A union of spirit within.  And then sparks broke away and fell.  Each alighting on a head.  Each settling in the hair – then the faces aglow – then within each.   Not just within – within and without.  Each of us alive, alight and changed.

As I stood …

We worshipped.

  1. How glorious and precious. Each one being touched by the Spirit, seeing each other through His eyes of love. Have that moment to share. Carrying in their hearts. Knowing it is possible. And thirsting for it again.

    • What a day this is. Just like the first Secret Santa I find both awe and wonder today. Thank you so much, Susan.

And this was not my piece. My piece was something very different. And out of somewhere He plopped these images together. And that is part of the awe and wonder. 🙂

  2. The fact that there is a common thread? Is in itself a beautiful gift of the Holy Spirit much like your “illustration of words” is! The Holy Spirit demonstrating His Power, the Father’s Love, the Son’s Oneness in bringing His Body/Church together with it’s diversity of gifts, but Oneness of spirit!!! This is a demonstration of how the Holy Spirit is STILL at work in the heart and spirit of the Redeemed!! You my brother nailed it with your vision of the Spirit drawing us together in that Oneness!

Galatians 3:26-29, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Heirs according to the promise, then, now and to come!!! God bless you greatly my brother and thank you for such a beautiful insight into our spirits intertwined in the Oneness of the Spirit of God!!!!

    • Roland, this was a personal curiosity: worship. How often we use that word. How seldom we stop to ask each other what we think that word means. This post was an afterthought (so I thought). I had written this post – in fact two posts morphed as one. Checked and rechecked – He was happy. So was I. And then He gave me this. All I did was write up the images. And yet …

What have I learned? Something – for me – very important. Another word/label is yet another way of living Love. Worship is simple. Worship is Love. An abundant love. A flowing love. A love as unique as we are, and as connected as we are. Worship can be anything and everything for everyone.

I have just come home from a local worship leaders tutorial. He wants me there. I struggle. Here I soar. There I don’t. Here I grow. There I shrink. Here is safe. There is not. Not yet. Here is relationship. There is being nice. So far. I ask Him why. He says “sssshhhh …”

For me today has been important. It is my turn to say “sssshhhh ….” to myself. 🙂

    • Julie, I am so pleased you added such a beautiful piece to this day. Thank you. I have no idea what heaven is like, but on a day like today – I think our Lord is closer than I realise most of the time. And if we could but allow that in each us as we draw together … wow!! You are beautiful. Thank you so much. 🙂

  4. Like the song says…”I can only imagine…” What awesome wonder. Your imagery was like poetry. I am thrilled to be reading all the entries about worship. Good job, Paul and all those who have participated. 🙂

    • Dale, what a wonderful comment – thank you! And this “worship day” has been a real “onion” – full of different layers to peel back!

Glad you are part of the participation!! 🙂
